Instructions for Using a WPI Gauge (Wraps Per Inch):
A WPI gauge is a handy tool for determining the thickness of yarn. The measurement is based on how many times the yarn can be wrapped around a one-inch section without overlapping. The gauge can also be used by comparing the yarn to the thickness of the lines on the gauge. Here’s how to use the gauge:
1. Wrap the yarn tightly around the gauge's measurement area. Ensure that the wraps lie side by side without overlapping.
2. Count how many wraps fit within the one-inch area. This number is the yarn’s WPI (Wraps Per Inch).
3. Compare your WPI result with the following yarn thickness classifications:
Lace: 18 WPI
Sock: 14 WPI
Sport: 12 WPI
DK: 11 WPI
Worsted: 9 WPI
Aran: 8 WPI
Bulky: 7 WPI
Super Bulky: 5-6 WPI or fewer
